Leadership Coaching

One-On-One Leadership “Coaching” with a Very Practical Twist

Many bullying/harassment complaints against supervisors and managers are triggered by performance management and discipline.  In a number of these, the complaints are “dismissed” only because the conduct, while disrespectful and inappropriate, is not sufficiently serious to meet the narrow definition of bullying/harassment.  In others, the harassment complaint is “allowed” yet the leader is permitted to remain in his/her position and given an opportunity to improve.  In either scenario, the overall “style” and “manner” of the leader is problematic, is having deleterious effects on the team, and needs to change.

How is this necessary and important change to leadership “style” achieved?  Through clear direction, guidance and support, such as that now offered by Marli through intensive 1:1 Leadership Coaching Sessions (in workplaces, unions, boards of directors and otherwise).  These sessions are geared towards those leaders identified as having to strengthen their communication skills and overall “approach” with their teams.

Marli RusenThrough this coaching, Marli works closely with leaders to build their capacity and enhance their skills to ensure they make defensible decisions and implement them in a defensible manner.  Specifically, Marli will:

  • Help leaders work through their current issues with particular staff or their team as a whole;
  • Help leaders strengthen their ability to be objective and accurately assess workplace dysfunction, misconduct and performance issues;
  • Guide leaders on how to communicate with and coach staff in a clear and respectful manner;
  • Advise leaders on how and when to escalate matters to a system of “formal” accountability in response to unacceptable workplace behaviours and poor performance.

In this competitive era, leaders need to be “passionate” about the bottom-line yet “dispassionate” in how they get there.  Marli teaches them how to strike this balance.

Do you have leaders on your team (front-line foremen, team leaders, supervisors, managers, Directors, Vice Presidents) who are consistently struggling with the “people aspects” of their positions?  Do they have issues with how they “message their messages”?  Are they seen as or commonly accused of being inconsistent or biased in their approach to workplace conflicts, practices and policies?  Do they implement the right decisions in the wrong way, resulting in low engagement, high turnover, excessive absenteeism, formal harassment complaints and multiple grievances about their overall “style”?

Marli’s coaching will support them as well as the teams with whom they work.

In order to facilitate the busy schedules of many workplace leaders, Marli is available for leadership coaching in the evenings and on weekends (as well as during the workdays).  These coaching sessions can be done from anywhere, in person, via Skype/Facetime or on the phone.
